The biggest next step

One commenter (thanks for posting!!!) asked the biggest question: How will this affect the adoption. Well, the good news is: it won't.

Russia is temporarily closed due to the new laws (only to people just starting, etc.). There are still people travelling, and adopting, just the people at the beginning of the process are going to have to wait a little longer. So for our purposes, Russia is closed until June.

This will work to our advantage because it will give us time to move, get adjusted and get settled in our new location. We'll have to have our homestudy amended or re-done, but we're not sure which quite yet.

So if Russia opens up in June, and then the clock starts ticking for 6-8 months? It honestly couldn't be more perfect.

So the move is having the intended affect -- distraction. Ok, God, I get it. LOL

Sometimes, the big guy upstairs has a really twisted sense of humor. Thanks for the distraction, I definitely needed it. :)

... Freaking VEY

Ok, so what is all this great news I've been alluding to?

WE'RE MOVING!

DH just accepted a job at a company in New England (the northeast, for those non-natives), and he starts there in two weeks!

So it looks like we're going to be doing a two pronged move. He moves some stuff into an apartment plus one or two of the animals. I'd follow when I got a job or sold the house with the rest.

I'm thrilled and excited and ....

happy.

What an amazing show. I'd seen them last year when they came to Texas for a pre-Superbowl show in San Antonio (they were playing one of the gigs in Houston and came a couple of days early for this show). Last year, it was a 90 minute tease for approximately $80 plus the hotel room, gas, etc. They were good. Really good. I left the show last year with a smile, and a spring in my step.

BUT HOLY FUCKING SHIT. This year blew all other concerts out of the freaking stratosphere. Simon, Nick, John, Roger and Andy were in rare form. They played solidly for OVER two hours and twenty minutes. My friends, or fellow Durannies, and I stood the entire time, screaming at the top of our lungs. Half way through the show, I got hit with a migraine, and spent the rest of the show trying to ignore it. Yea, you try ignoring a migraine with flashing lights meant to give you a seizure and realizing you forgot your meds in the car. No re-entry, sorry! GRRR

So, I pinched the webbing between my pointy finger and thumb the rest of the night. That kept the worst of it at bay while I just stood in awe balancing on my cute open toed mules (pink leather with 4" heels). It was held in the concert hall on the University of Texas campus. I felt positively ancient walking to the show, but once I got there, you couldn't get me to tell you my name, let alone how old I felt.

So, back to the show. Thats why you're reading this review, after all.

The show began with Sunrise, and took off from there. Simon was as bouncy as ever. And wearing no underwear, as usual. John was amazing. He and Roger kept the beat going for each and every song. Even when Simon took a break during their instrumental, Tiger Tiger, there they were still going. Nick was hilarious. He's got this subtle way about him, but if you know the band well, you would have been laughing, too.

Andy had just come out of rehab a couple of weeks prior, so it was interesting to see how they handled him. No embellishing. A couple of times he tried to travel down the "MEMEMEMEME" road, and the sound guys lowered the guitar and the band played on.

My favorite songs had to have been the encore. They really made us work for it, keeping us clapping and screaming for about 10 minutes, but it was definitely worth it. Nick had a video camera on stage and during Rio, when Simon was introducing the band to the audience, Nick was the camera man. The guys were making faces into the camera and being all around goofs.

Even though they are all well into their 40's, they showed energy and enthusiasm for what they were doing. Many bands I've seen don't have this, and I guess thats why Duran Duran is back and being so well received. They like what they're doing. You can tell that they are just like a family. Even though they may love each other, they all have the ability to drive each other insane.

The songs were incredible. Take a look at the set list. They played songs that haven't seen the light of day in over a decade. What an incredible event. I was hoping that they'd be pulling some of these gems out of storage, and they sure delievered! Nightboat and Hold Back the Rain were amazing ... especially since the rain forcasted for that evening did hold back from drenching us until the next morning.

By the time the show was over it was well after eleven. I'd been on my feet for over three hours, wearing heels, no less. My throat felt like I'd swallowed sand paper, and my head was throbbing in time to the beat. I managed somehow to get home and in bed by midnight.

My ears rang for the next 5 days. The ticket stub is on my bulletin board in my office at work.

The opening band sucked. Big time. If you hear of a band named Clear Static, be prepared to be diappointed. We were. But then again, look who they warmed the crowd up for. A bunch of 30 something slightly drunk durannies. HA!

They're actually doing a world tour, and you can find the tour and ticket information posted at: www.duranduran.com. Its worth the price, trust me.

OY

So the adoption has come to a screeching halt -- but for the best reason in the world.

No, we're not pregnant.

Until its final, I can't talk about it.

But, ohhh, its good. :)

Name that band ...

Simon, Nick, John, Roger and Andy.

Bonus points if you recognize the name Andy Hamilton.

HOLY CRAP was that an amazing show.

I'll post a review tomorrow.

And we're off !!!

Just dropped the homestudy in the mail to the INS. Should hear in a couple of weeks about fingerprinting.

In other news, God loves a good laugh, and he seems to be directing his laughter at us right now. Chaos reigns supreme! More on that when I can discuss. :)

Sacrifice?

Today on my way home, I heard on the radio that one of the "Entertainment News Shows" was having a special segment on Louis Vuitton. So, I raced home the rest of the way to see it. Ok, I was only 5 minutes away, but didn't want to miss it.

I saw the segment, thinking longingly of the Louis Vuitton list that is frozen in time ... and has been since we decided to adopt. It was the one thing that I had to give up ... OK, so it wasn't the only thing. I gave up my Porsche, too. But, y'know what?

I'm so happy with what we're doing and what we're planning on for our family, that I didn't even have a twinge of regret. My list is frozen indefinitely? So, what?

It will be unfrozen soon enough. Like when the kids are 10. :)

And the six I currently have in my collection? I use them every day.

Waiting

I'm thrilled with receiving a positive homestudy. Thrilled, I tell you!

I've got ALL the other paperwork done. Now I'm just waiting for the mailbox to majic-ally *poof* and it will be there.

I hate waiting on other people.

I'm hoping it will be in todays mail. If not, hopefully by the end of the week.

Then the next major check gets sent. Oy, freaking, vey. This will be the biggest check yet.

Its not that I be-grudge sending the money. Its just that its so very much at one time.

Thud.

I just proofed the draft of our homestudy.

OMG, this is really happening.

Lost

Remember that last post?

Its almost a week later, and no one acknowledged the email.

So, the morning show of JB and Sandy in Austin, Texas, has lost a listener. I've even re-programmed the button of the station in both cars and the stereo in the house.

I can't say I'm disgusted. Disappointed, is certianly more accurate.
