So I've been tagged.
I need to come up with six things that are strange about me. I'm thinking long and hard on these ... Hmmmmm.
1. I sucked as a writer in high school and college. Couldn't write my way out of a paper. 90% of my papers were re-written ... and I didn't have a choice in the matter. I now spend most of my job related work, you got it, writing. Ah, irony, thy name is Bethany. I'm still in contact with some of my college professors, and we had a good laugh over this one.
2. I met my husband on AOL. He IM'ed me, we hung out online for 4 months, were BFF's for another 6 months, and went from BFF's to serious dating because he was jealous that I was dating everyone else.
3. My husband is a video game geek.
4. When I first moved into my house in Texas, my parents came and stayed with me for 8 weeks to help me "set up" everything. I didn't speak to my Mother for 3 months after she left. To this day, she is clueless as to why. Not for lack of trying to explain things to her.
5. I almost cut off my hair until I found Ojon products. Go ahead, Google them. I'll wait. AMAZING stuff.
6. I'm having no fun job hunting, and I've gotten NO offers yet.
I need to tag six people now. I'll make that a separate post. ;)
The Next Step in life is often the most frightening. This is my attempt to understand it, think it through and move on to the next.

The Quilt
About a week ago, I sent this letter to friends and family to invite them to participate in the creation of our "100 Good Wishes Quilt" for the baby.
I'd like to invite you, dear readers, to participate. Please let me know if you'd like to, but please don't feel obligated to. :)
---------------
Dear Friends and Family:
As most of you are aware, DH and I are adopting a child (or children!) from Russia later this year. We have been working our way through this process for over a year, and at last, we're in the final stages … waiting! When we moved to Massachusetts from Texas, we had to begin the whole process over again.
We're so excited to bring our new baby home and introduce him (or her!) to everyone.
During this last stage of the process, commonly referred to as "The Wait", we would like to get all of you as excited to welcome the baby into our circle as we are.
Bethany has recently learned how to quilt, and read an article where friends and family sent pieces of fabric and good wishes to be included in a quilt and an accompanying scrapbook. I am attaching a link to an article in Adoptive Families magazine which describes what we are looking to do in detail.
We would be so honored if you would participate in the creation of this quilt.
All you need to do is send a piece of fabric, measuring 18"x20". If you are familiar with quilting, this is called a "Fat Quarter". Please be sure that the fabric is machine washable, as I'm sure this will be a well loved quilt! Accompanying the fabric, traditionally, is a wish from you for the baby. Feel free to include a funny story to share or just a short wish.
The quilt will be made for the baby and kept in his room.
We have requested the referral of a baby less than 12 months of age of either gender. Right now it looks like the wait for the referral will be approximately 3-4 months long. Once we receive the referral, we will fly over to Russia to meet the baby. We will then return home and wait for a court date. Court will happen approximately eight weeks after the first trip. We will then make our second and return with our new son (or daughter!) at the conclusion of this trip. Sometime early fall, we shouuld be bringing our little one home.
When we originally began this process we had requested two children. Because we are currently renting an apartment, there is uncertainty as to whether the Russian government will allow the adoption of two children at the same time. We are still requesting the referral of two children but most likely will only be able to spoil one child rotten this time!
If you have any questions, please let us know.
It would be a great help if you could get the fabric and wishes to us by the end of May.
Thanks!

Waiting
I know patience. Intimately. I have so patience that I make people absolutely annoyed at me.
Can't get into boarding school? No worries. Work hard and be patient. Three years later, I'm in.
Want to date? No worries, wait until you've graduated college to start dating. No kidding. I made up for lost time, too. ;)
Want to be married. Wait until you're 31. Ok. Patient. Got it.
Check.
Wait for a baby? Well, we started this journey back in the fall of 2004. So its been a while. But compared to the other waits? Its the blink of an eye.
This wait may be the one that breaks the patient quotient, though. And I'm only talking about the wait that began when our documents went over to Russia a couple of weeks ago.
Someone is going to have to tranqulize me before this is done!

So.
Not much to say.
We're in the "wait", which means, we have nothing to say.
Well, not necessarily nothing, but as far as the adoption, no news, no actions to report.
So.
About 4 weeks ago, I was told that my contract was ending. What stinks is that I left my last contract for this one, with the hope/promise that this would go permanent. Well, its not. So I'm back on the job search trail. Back to feeling horrid. Back to feeling like I have to justify my existance.
Grr.
Had my second interview with one place. A half dozen phone screens and two phone interviews.
I'm hoping that the place I had a second interview with works out. I really liked both people that I met with. Really like the commute.
How did they leave it? "We have one more candidate we need to meet with, but we will be making a decision by the end of the week."
Then, I spent some time at the Secretary of the Commonwealth's office getting some last docs Apostilled. Had to pull a string to get it done in less than 48 hours, but string pulled, mission accomplished. Done in an hour.
During my wait, I had a phone screen.
Dropped the docs off at the FedEx drop box on my way back to the train.
Came home, hopped online to check my email, respond to a few enquiries with my resume, and logged onto AIM. DH IM'ed me and we met for lunch.
Came home from lunch, cancelled my second interview of the day because my body started to collapse (gee, I wonder why?! LOL). Went to bed and woke up two hours later.
I think my body finally realized that the worst of the crap was finally over, so it just decided to shut down for a little while.
I'm trying to reschedule that interview for Thursday, and its actually something I'm kind of interested in.
I'm going to go to bed early tonite and hope that take care of it.
What a day!

Its Official.
Our docs went over today.
Vladivostok, here we come...
Great way to start my day.
My day ended with my DH meeting me at the front door with the kitty. TJ meowed his greeting to me and then led me to his food bowl to let me know that he needed more food.
DH ran upstairs to get my laptop for me while I cooked dinner.
What a great way to end my day.
