The Quilt

About a week ago, I sent this letter to friends and family to invite them to participate in the creation of our "100 Good Wishes Quilt" for the baby.

I'd like to invite you, dear readers, to participate. Please let me know if you'd like to, but please don't feel obligated to. :)
Dear Friends and Family:

As most of you are aware, DH and I are adopting a child (or children!) from Russia later this year. We have been working our way through this process for over a year, and at last, we're in the final stages … waiting! When we moved to Massachusetts from Texas, we had to begin the whole process over again.

We're so excited to bring our new baby home and introduce him (or her!) to everyone.

During this last stage of the process, commonly referred to as "The Wait", we would like to get all of you as excited to welcome the baby into our circle as we are.

Bethany has recently learned how to quilt, and read an article where friends and family sent pieces of fabric and good wishes to be included in a quilt and an accompanying scrapbook. I am attaching a link to an article in Adoptive Families magazine which describes what we are looking to do in detail.

We would be so honored if you would participate in the creation of this quilt.

All you need to do is send a piece of fabric, measuring 18"x20". If you are familiar with quilting, this is called a "Fat Quarter". Please be sure that the fabric is machine washable, as I'm sure this will be a well loved quilt! Accompanying the fabric, traditionally, is a wish from you for the baby. Feel free to include a funny story to share or just a short wish.

The quilt will be made for the baby and kept in his room.

We have requested the referral of a baby less than 12 months of age of either gender. Right now it looks like the wait for the referral will be approximately 3-4 months long. Once we receive the referral, we will fly over to Russia to meet the baby. We will then return home and wait for a court date. Court will happen approximately eight weeks after the first trip. We will then make our second and return with our new son (or daughter!) at the conclusion of this trip. Sometime early fall, we shouuld be bringing our little one home.

When we originally began this process we had requested two children. Because we are currently renting an apartment, there is uncertainty as to whether the Russian government will allow the adoption of two children at the same time. We are still requesting the referral of two children but most likely will only be able to spoil one child rotten this time!

If you have any questions, please let us know.

It would be a great help if you could get the fabric and wishes to us by the end of May.
